The PA Department of Transportation – Emissions Inspector Certification Course is a self-study training program. This training program is available via a web-based course. Access the website at www.patrainingportal.com to register. There is a fee for course study materials that will be paid on line.
The Emissions Inspector Certification final exam is administered at Mercer County Career Center. For the exam you are required to bring your driver’s license. You will have up to one hour to complete the test. Your test results will be given to you following testing. A certification card will be mailed to you approximately two weeks after you test. If a passing grade is not achieved, you will need to review the study material and schedule another test date. You will be charged a fee for retesting. Test registration is done on a first-come-first-served basis.
To Register to Test: Prior to the day of the test, request a registration form from the Career Center (724-662-3000 x 1510). Submit the form and payment to:

NOTE: Recertification can be done by accessing the www.patrainingportal.com website and taking the exam on the website.
It is not necessary to come to the Career Center to re-certify.

Eligibility to Test:
- Be at least 18 years old
- Have a valid driver’s license (bring it with you on your test day).
- Pay the test fee ($15.00) cash, credit/debit, check or money order payable to Mercer County Career Center. This fee is nonrefundable.
