Certification
The Emission Certification Course is a home self-study training. To prepare for the test, go to the website at www.patrainingportal.com.
A fee for the course materials is paid on-line. Once prepared, schedule the exam at Mercer County Career Center. Registration form, testing fee, and copy of driver’s license must be received for registration to be complete.

Eligibility
At least 18 years of age
A valid driver’s license (be prepared to show it on test day)
Registration
Step 1: Click the Emission Inspector Registration link to register and pay your testing fee for MCCC.
Step 2: Once you receive a registration confirmation email from MCCC, then proceed to PA Training Portal, and create an account, if you don't already have one.
Step 3: Once enrolled in the PA Training Portal, you will purchase your training package for the Emission Certification test. Prepare for the exam by reviewing the training material.
Step 4: Arrive to MCCC on the date & time schedule to complete your exam.

Testing Fee
Fees are non-refundable
Emissions Inspector Certification* - $60
*You are permitted two (2) attempts to pass the exam before retaking the course.
Recertification Test** - $60
** Recertification testing can be done at home by accessing the PA Training Portal and completing your exam on your home computer.
**New Information**
Effective July 1, 2025
The passing percentage for Initial Vehicle Safety Inspector Certification and Enhanced Vehicle Safety Inspection Inspector Certification will change from 70% to 80%.
The change to the passing grade percentage aligns with all other vehicle safety and emissions inspection certification exams. These include Initial Vehicle Emissions Inspector Certification, Vehicle Safety Inspector Recertification, Vehicle Emissions Inspector Recertification, and Enhanced Vehicle Safety Inspection Inspector Recertification.
