Random Weapons Detection Screenings

The safety of our students and staff is our top priority. To help keep our school safe, the Mercer County Career Center will use weapons detection systems (such as walk-through scanners or handheld wands) at random times throughout the school year.

What You Need to Know

Random Schedule: Screenings will not happen every day, and schools/dates will be chosen at random.
Quick Process: Students may be asked to walk through a scanner or have their belongings checked.
Follow-Up: If the system alerts, staff may use a handheld scanner or inspect bags to ensure safety.
Respectful and Private: Screenings will be done respectfully and as quickly as possible. If a more detailed search is needed, it will be handled privately and according to school policy.

Prohibited Items

Students may not bring weapons, replicas, or dangerous items to school or school activities. This includes knives, firearms, cutting tools, or any object capable of causing harm. Items found in violation of policy will be confiscated, and disciplinary action will follow. Law enforcement may be contacted when required.

Parent/Guardian Notification

If a student is found with a prohibited item, parents/guardians will be notified as soon as possible, and appropriate school and legal procedures will follow.
